Wireless And Mobile LTE Device Review

Wireless And Mobile LTE Device Review

The biggest selling point for the HTC Thunderbolt mobile device is wireless LTE on the 700MHz frequency. There has been a lot of buzz about how fast the speeds on this network are, and these claims are all true.

Creating a wireless hotspot inside an LTE network allows you to share this blazing fast speed with up to eight devices, so you could stream Netflix on three separate computers and still be able to use the phone to surf the web with almost no difference in performance. This gives credence to the idea that an LTE hotspot could be your next broadband connection. The LTE radio in the Thunderbolt allows the phone to access voice and data simultaneously on Verizon Wireless, and delivers a great experience as long as you are inside an LTE area. However, the battery life on this device borders on abysmal, and there is no easy way to disable LTE on this device like you can on the EVO 4G.

Wireless Internet in Las Vegas

The testing of a new wireless internet service in Las Vegas could cause GPS outages in the city. Broadband developer LightSquared will begin testing its emerging 4G wireless network in the Las Vegas area this week during the hours after midnight for ten days straight. If the test is successful, Las Vegas could become one of the first US cities to get on a super-high speed internet grid that is independent of any service provider.

However, the city government is warning that if the test fails it could compromise or even black out the GPS system in the area, which would render everything from car navigation systems to air traffic control systems temporarily useless. The problem is one of bandwidth, as the frequency that LightSquared is using to send ground-based wireless signals directly bumps up against one that satellites use to transmit the much weaker GPS signals. There is a high chance that in the vicinity of LightSquared's ground transmitters , those signals are going to get crossed.
